According to the numbers published by US department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, a total of 5,702 workers – 122 from Kentucky -- lost their lives to work injuries in this country in 2005. In 2004, 143 workers lost their lives in Kentucky. In 2005, a rate of 6.1 injuries and illnesses per 100 full-time workers was recorded for workers in Kentucky, compared to 6.0 in 2004. The private sector incidence rate was recorded at 6.2 in 2005 and 6.1 in 2004.

The fatality rate for construction workers in the private construction industry was 12 per hundred thousand (100,000) workers in 2004 which is fourth highest among all the industry sectors while the average for all industries is 4.1.
